Bear Lake with the Hislop Family

We got home from Cannon Beach late last Friday night, then left for Bear Lake on Sunday with my family.  We rented a cabin for 2 nights in Garden City.  It was a pretty nice place with a great view of Bear Lake.  We arrived Sunday afternoon and once everyone got there Angie did dinner and had a birthday cake for all the July birthdays in our family.  Grandpa Hislop, Hal, Me, Jack, Ginger, Lucy and Sammy all have birthdays in July.
Monday morning Grandpa and Grandma, Angie, Nikki and Ginger all went horseback riding up at Beaver Creek Lodge.  Grandpa was trying it out to promote it for the radio station.  It's too bad I wasn't there because I don't have a picture of it.  And you have to see it to believe it.  My brother Joey said on Facebook that Hislop's don't ride horses so it's a good thing you got proof.  I think they had a good time though.  While they did that, the rest of us drove to the North beach of Bear Lake.  The Lake is pretty high this year so there is not much of a beach anywhere.  The north and south ends are pretty much it.  Clay had driven down to Rendezvous beach earlier and said it didn't look so good, a little muddy.  The north beach was not very big at all and there were lots of small rocks.  But we did have a good time there.  It was shallow for quite a ways out so the kids could walk out and play in the water.  They had fun.  We stayed there for a few hours then stopped at the go-carts on the way back to the cabin.  The kids Loved them!  They went twice, but wanted to keep going.  After that we went back to get dinner ready.  Clay and I cooked dutch oven chicken and potatoes and biscuits.  I think it turned out pretty good, everyone ate it all.  After dinner we went into town for shakes.  You can't go to Bear Lake and not have a shake, right?!
The boys had a good time looking for bugs, snakes and squirrels.  It rained a little the first night, but other than that it was great weather.  We drove home through Logan Canyon, we usually go the other way.  What a pretty drive!
It was a fun short trip, but it's also good to be home for a while.  With Cannon Beach and Bear Lake we have been on vacation for a couple weeks and it's good to be back in our own bed now.
